Another Mouth to Feed
So it seems that I agreed to a puppy. Rich has always wanted a german shepherd, Zoe just loves dogs, and I can't say no to either of them. We picked her up last Saturday and I forgot how our lives would be (temporarily) turned upside down. Her name is Elsa and she's a cute little furball but it's going to be an adjustment. The car ride home wasn't all that pleasant - it seems that she and 2 of her siblings decided to go exploring that morning and found themselves in the hog pens where they enjoyed some you-know-what. She got sick in the car and threw up a few times. I made Rich roll down the window while we were driving on the interstate in 30 something degree weather. When we got home, Rich gave her 2 baths because she was a bit dirty. She was very snugly afterward and fell asleep wrapped up. Once she had a nap we tried to get her warmed up to her new home. Maggie was not feeling the love and just avoided her for the most part. Elsa was a bit lethargic and really just wanted to be held. The first night wasn't too bad because she landed herself in our bed and slept just fine. On Sunday, she scarfed down a bowl of food and turned into a completely different dog. She was suddenly running around, chewing on EVERYTHING and nibbling on fingers and toes. She tried playing with Maggie and got a little love there but still not much. Sunday night was a totally different story - she cried in her kennel most of the night. This week did get a little better, but it's going to take awhile to get into our routine.
